Round 10 Coaches Match Reports

Girls Under 10

Today the under 10 girls were on the road again a nice little road trip to Wallan where the beautiful sunshine greeted us.

Willow one of our smallest searchers but also one of our toughest was captain for the day and she led from the front all day having a great game.
Willow won the toss and we got off to a great start we were switched on right from the start of the game having our best ever first quarter for the season with us kicking 3 goals to Wallan 1.
Mia was a star up forward kicking 3 first quarter goals and dominating Wallan. Our Midfield dominated and our backline stopped almost everything coming their way.
The rest of the game went our way with some great team play from Lil and Indie with handball and our tackling was off the charts. Special shout out to Erene who was the Research 10 girls tackler of the day laying 4-5 tackles at one stage in about 3 minutes and her second efforts were exceptional!
The under 10 girls played I would say their best all round game for the season the team play and the way the girls played the game was great to watch the ball going from end to end. In the end it was our first win against Wallan for the season 39-26 a great team performance.
Mia finished with 4 exciting goals for the day a great achievement and great effort. Indie kicking one and Lilian the other 6 in total for our team!!
Our medal winner was Harriet who has been getting better and better each and every week and today deserved her medal with a strong 4 quarter performance winning the footy all day long!
Well done girls great game!

Girls Under 14

Research 4.4.28 sensational winners over Wallan 1.1.7
After being pipped at the post last week, coming into this weekend, the training we have had, the determination of everyone one of these girls to get better and play harder has been inspirational!
We had a very honest talk today before the game with our group, focussed on self belief and what we can achieve.  Our girls have got it – now they just need to believe it!!
Anyone who witnessed our girls play this weekend watched something outstanding – they were tough, they were resilient, we played as a team and were just backing each other all day. Winning this game and knocking off 2nd placed Wallan is the start of this team’s journey. The best players on the ground were every single one of you! Outstanding!!
Well done girls, I am honoured to coach this fine group of footballers. Steve

Boys Under 15

RJFC 7-6-48 Def by Whittlesea 8-7-55
As they say in the classics – ‘a week can be a long time in football’ and after a pretty deflating performance the week prior the U15s met equal ladder leaders, Whittlesea and played their best footy of the season. Our boys executed our game plan and were committed to the contest from the 1st bounce. They stayed within reach throughout the match and put on a final quarter effort to finish a goal down. And while we didnt take away the four points our effort and commitment to the contest shows that we can well and truly take it up to the better teams in it – A performance everyone is very proud of.
The addition of Braden has been huge this last few weeks.  His unwavering commitment to the contest is something we have really missed this season and he sets the standard for others to follow.   Morgs was also a notable in this week and he showed his attack on the footy is also going to see us be better in the games to come.   The back third was excellent all day, led by Romeo and Linc while Hughy looked very dangerous in the front half once again.
Nothing but positives out of this one and we have now set the baseline standard for our effort and commitment to the contest.   A win is just around the corner.

Girls Under 16

Goals: Sienna, Jaya, Somma, Jess, Harper, Amy C, Kyah.

Today the under 16 girls were up against Sth Morang in a top of the table clash. It was a pretty even game the last time we played them but we broke them in the second half to go on and win the game. We knew they would come out fierce to try and get one back over us.

It was a pretty even first quarter even though the ball spent a lot of time in our forward line but we weren’t able to put the score on the board as much as I would of liked with all of our dominance in the first 10 minutes! We scored a goal right on the quarter time siren and it gave us a bit of reward for our effort and a 15 point lead!
The second and third quarter was a struggle and I felt like we were definitely not at our best. We were pretty flat to be honest but with a bit of luck and some individual efforts we managed to keep them scoreless for the first three quarters whilst adding a couple of goals to our total giving us a pretty handy 29 point lead!
I asked the girls to finish off strong and put a gap between us and them and they did that kicking three goals to nothing in the final quarter giving us a 50-0 win. Seven different goal kickers was a great result! The score was a bit flattering to be honest they put up a great contest all day leaving us with a bit to work on for the next few weeks to get ready for finals.
A great effort though to keep them scoreless and win our 6th game in a row Well done team.

Today we played 3rd placed Yarrambat. Yarrambat challenged us on our first meeting so we were excited about the game and the test.
The first qrt was a real battle and it was the physical game we expected. Their pressure around the ball was hot and it made for a pretty ugly game with multiple ball ups. Every possession was really earnt today as Yarrambat came very focussed on their game plan.
To the girls credit it just made us more ferocious and more determined. We stepped up again and again and while the first qrt was tight the scoreboard ticked over our way. With a bench today we were able to keep our midfield ultra fresh with as much as 13 players going through there. Every set of 4 players plus wings drove the ball forward with purpose. While our backline kept them scoreless after mid way through the 3rd even with them having 4 opportunities from the mercy rule kicking from the arc. Our offensive play, which often started from deep defence gave us the opportunity to kick our second highest score of the year in 98 points.
Very much a whole team effort today, sharing the ball around with skill under extreme pressure. We have now played everyone twice and sit on top of the ladder with 10 wins
